FAQ:
Q. What’s Balboa?

A. Balboa – Danced in the small ballrooms of the west coast during the 20s-40s, Balboa is a vintage swing dance that developed without Lindy Hop’s influence. Characterized by fancy footwork, smooth and effortless motion, rotation, spins, and taking up very little space on the dance floor, this dance is a great way to vary your swing dance options, especially at faster tempos!

Q. Do I need a partner to participate?

A. No! You will practice with individuals in the class who are dancing the other role!

Q. What shoes should I wear?

A. It is much easier to dance, spin, and generally impress your partner with your fancy moves in smooth-soled shoes. Shoes that have a really grippy sole can cause injuries to knees and ankles when you try to spin or turn quickly. The most important thing is to wear comfortable shoes, and you may want to experiment with different types to find which you prefer.

For Balboa, we recommend that followers wear shoes that have a short heel and a smooth sole which will not drag on the floor when you’re standing on the balls of your feet.
